Repair Clinics
What is a Repair Clinic?
The NJARC holds Radio Repair Clinics several times a year. At these events members with expertise in different areas of electronic restoration volunteer their time to serve as experts and problem-solvers to perform or assist other members in diagnostic and repair efforts. Depending on the volume of customers and available experts per an event, the NJARC may have available slots for members of the public to get something of theirs evaluated, diagnosed, and maybe even repaired if the problem is simple enough and parts are available.
NJARC members are encouraged to attend and participate. It's a great opportunity to develop the basic skills which will allow you to perform many simple radio repairs, and if you already have those skills, you can help pass them on to others. It's also a form of outreach and goodwill towards the public when working on non-members' things.
When/Where are the clinics?
Our Radio Repair Clinics are generally held on Saturdays, from 10:00am - 4:00pm at InfoAge in our normal meeting space 9032A.
Complimentary Bagels and Coffee are present at most clinics, and a Pizza is catered in later in the day.
Specific information about upcoming Repair Clinics is posted on our Event Calendar in our newsletter, The Jersey Broadcaster after being announced at one of our meetings. Those acting as experts/volunteers are requested to arrive at 9am for setup.
Important!
All members interesting in attending as a customer must contact President Richard Lee via Email or phone to reserve a timeslot with our Experts.
What should I bring?
Members that are performing repairs are encouraged to bring their own test equipment and should bring a basic set of tools with them for use on their project(s), such as: screwdrivers, wrenches, wire cutters, soldering iron, etc.
Customers, if you have a copy of any service literature or replacement parts for your device already, we encourage you to bring them. If you don't have a schematic, there is generally a computer with printer available for us to try to find it.
What about Parts?
Our Parts Programs' stock is generally present and available for purchase to supply repair needs if you come across something you need but do not have. Most specifically, modern replacement capacitors and common vacuum tubes. There are other supplies in the Radio Repair Workshop of surplus parts available on first come, first serve basis.
