Charles
A. 'Tony" Flanagan Jr., 56, of Freehold Township, died yesterday at
home after a 10-month battle with brain cancer. He was a special agent
with the U.S. Secret Service for 20 years until 1991. After his
retirement, he was a special agent in charge of the Philadelphia office
of the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board Office of the Inspector General
for six years, retiring in 1998. He dedicated his life to law
enforcement and his family. He was a founder and first president of New
Jersey Antique Radio Club, Freehold, and one of the founding members of
the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association. He was a member of
the American Legion Post 54, the AMVETS, the Federal Officers
Policeman's Benevolent Associaion Local 121, the Tri-State Association
of Criminal Investigators, the Ocean-Monmouth Investigators and the
Vidocq Society. He was a former member of the Freehold Township Little
League Board of Directors. He graduated from South River High School in
1959. He served in the Air Force and was a graduate of Northwest
Missouri State University. Born in New Brunswick, he lived in Old
Bridge, East Brunswick, Roselle Park, Spotswood, Howell and Oak Grove,
MO., before moving to Freehold Township 14 years ago.
Surviving
are his wife of 25 years, Kathleen E. McAleavey Flanagan, two sons,
Patrick R. and Brian S., both at home; his mother, Marie Flanagan, East
Brunswick; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and James Blumig, Old
Bridge; a brother-in-law, James H. McAleavey, Boston; his brother-in-
law and sister-in-law, Thomas and Julia McEleavey, Brooklyn; two
nephews, Christopher Reed and Daniel Blumig; and three nieces, Jessica,
Meagan amd Alberta McAleavey.
Funeral services were held at the Higgins
Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold. Entombment followed in
Holmdel Mausoleum.
